Advertising banner standards

Now that you have decided that you would like to host banner advertisements on your website, you are going to have to make another decision about what sizes and locations you are going to use. The number of different website styles and designs increases daily and a variety of banner advertisements need to be created to accommodate them.

If you want to make the most money possible from your banner advertisements, you will need to be able to put large banners advertisements on your website.

The leader board banner advertisement is a good example of this at 728 x 90 pixels. This banner advertisement is very large and eye-catching and so it serves its purpose. However, you have to weigh the obvious benefit of size and attractiveness against the loss of real estate. Such a large banner will take away space that you may want for your own content. For instance, you do not want visitors of your website to be turned off by seemingly blatant, flashy and irrelevant advertising.

Another example of a large banner advertisement is the full horizontal banner which is a smaller 468 x 60 pixels. Even though this banner is quite large, you will be able to tastefully display it across the top or bottom of your web page in a way that will not detract from the web page itself. If you are sure to place advertisements in these banners that are relevant to the visitors of your website, this form of banner advertising is generally the most successful of all types of banner advertisements.

If your goal is to provide a website that provides valuable information and content to its visitors, you will want to keep the size of your banner advertisements to a minimum. If this is the case, you may wish to stick to smaller half banner advertisements or square button advertisements. These allow you to display banner advertisements on your web pages, but maintain a good amount of space for your real content to be displayed. These do, however, tend to break up the information that you are posting. A solution for this is to use banner advertisements that are displayed off to the side of the regular webpage content.

There are many different banner advertisement sizes that can be used off to the side of your website content. These banners are given this name because they are usually quite skinny and tall. Some of the more common sizes for a skyscraper banner include the 120 x 600 and 160 x 600 versions. These will allow you to charge top rates for the banner advertisements that are displayed on your web page without compromising the content area of your webpage.

If you are considering using pop-up advertisements with your website there are also several standard sizes that are used which range anywhere from 425 x 600 to 180 x 150. Just be sure to be careful when using these. Most internet users consider them to be a nuisance and if you are using them with the wrong type of website, you will all but eliminate the number of people that choose to visit your site.

Just remember when creating banner advertisements on your webpage that you follow a very simple rule of thumb. If your customer wants a larger banner advertisement, you charge them a larger fee per click or per views. You also should use the popularity of your website as pull in charging your customers. A website that has a million visitors a month can charge more money than other site that gets only a fraction of that amount. Overall, it comes down to how well you can market your site.
