How to display banners

There are several different techniques that can be used to display banner advertisements on your website, and like everything else there are advantages and disadvantages to each of these methods. Let's quickly go over three of the more common techniques that are used by webmasters.

The easiest way to display a banner advertisement on a web page is to input the proper HTML code required to accomplish this. You can find help on this by searching for an HTML tutorial that will tell you how it is done. This technique is very easy to implement and will work on all web browsers and web hosts. There are, however, many disadvantages associated with using HTML code to display your banners.

If you have used HTML to display your banner advertisements, you will not be able to change the banners that you are using with rewriting the code on every single web page that has one. You will also not be able to use dynamic banners as HTML code will not allow this, which will prevent you from being able to show many advertisement banners using a single web page. It can be difficult to get working and it will not work if the user has JavaScript disabled in their internet browser. Just like in HTML, there is also no way of tracking your success with the banner advertisements that you display. This means you will have no idea how many times your banner advertisements are displayed or clicked on which will make it very difficult to know which banners are performing better than others. Once again, it will be difficult to sell advertising to other people if you have no way of tracking the performance of their banner advertisements.

The last method that is used by most webmasters is server-side scripts. This can be written in code such as ASP, CGI or PHP. Most webmasters use this technique because there are many more features that can be implemented. In order to use this technique you will need to have access to a web host that is able to run the script that has been written for displaying the banner advertisements. Sometimes this requires that you pay a little bit more money for your web hosting, but the advantages will often outweigh the cost.

There are many advantages to using server-side scripting to display your banner advertisements. The banners will work on all internet browsers since the code is run from the server and then sent to their web browser. You can easily update the banners that are displayed using an admin screen that the program has. You can easily use dynamic banner advertisements and you can set up zones to target the information displayed on various web pages within your site to ensure that the banners relate to the content on these sites. You can put a weight on different banners so that they are displayed more than others and you can track the performance of your banner advertisements so that you can see how many times they were displayed and clicked on.

There really are no serious disadvantages to using server-side scripting to display banner advertisements. You will also want to use this technique if you are looking to sell advertising to other people. You will be able to easily see how many times you have displayed their advertisements and how many clicks they have received so that you can bill them accurately and give them a report on the success of their investment.
